CREATIVE CHRONOLOGY
SNEAKER SUITE (2005)
The Sneaker Suite was originally launched in 2005 to celebrate the birthday of owner Ian Callender, as well as to highlight the Washington Post Feature “Sole of the Sneakerhead”. The event was a conceptual, creative footwear showcase blending music, fashion, food, art, and unique, exclusive sneakers. For years, the Sneaker Suite platform remained strategic with “one off”, turn-key, branded events with support from multiple corporate partners through high level productions such as Sneaker Pimps and the Kicks for Kids Charity Shoe Drive. SUITE NATION (2008)
In 2008, the Sneaker Suite birthed a more category focused, subsidiary entity called Suite Nation; a full service, event design agency serving clients outside the sneaker realm in genres such as automotive, wine and spirits, urban apparel, brick and mortar, real estate development & more. We offer seamless, dynamic solutions and provide opportunities for increased awareness and brand loyalty; providing a consistent, dedicated, influential audience for brand advertisers accordingly. We also provide concierge services for celebrity personnel seeking to expand their experiences with unique non traditional programming opportunities to keep in touch with their local/region communities.
14TH & FLORIDA AVE NW (2011)
In May of 2011 we created “uncapped LIVE”, a massive month long pop-up art show, live entertainment venue, wi-fi lounge, and dance club. The 20,000 square foot former office building on 14th and Florida was turned into a multi-sensory entertainment complex featuring different events every day of the week such as dance contests, stand up comedy, live bands, art seminars, film screenings, theater, DJ nights, and more. 700 DELAWARE AVE SW (2013)
Tucked away on a quiet inner city cul-de-sac, the Culture House (formerly Blind Whino) building on 17,000 square feet of land is an explosion of color amidst the bumpy asphalt and low-rise housing in Southwest Washington, D.C. The building was home to the Friendship Baptist Congregation for almost a century and was a cornerstone of the neighborhood’s social fabric. Reimagined in recent years as an art space, it is now a treasured community hotspot once again. We painted the exterior on October 2012, and formed a non-profit Arts Club in 2013 to serve the void in the Arts Community in DC. Learn More
700 H STREET NE (2015)
Following the success of Blind Whino, developers David Dochter and Matt Alexander offered their 20,000 square foot vacant and abandoned building for us to repurpose. The old fashion warehouse is located at 700 H Street NE in the heart of the H Street district. We dubbed it Whino on H Street. Learn More
1800 HALF STREET SW (2019)
Sandlot Southwest is a 5,000 square foot open-air cultural arts & event space built from the ground up in partnership with Absolut, Sunbelt Rentals & Lyft, located directly across the street from Audi Field at Buzzard Point in Southwest, DC. The inspiration of the project originated in 2018 when Ian Callender, Owner of Suite Nation, and childhood friend and business ally Kevin Hallums of Rock Creek Social Club, both of whom are D.C. natives, wanted to commemorate the 25th anniversary of one of their favorite movies, “The Sandlot.” Additionally, Ricardo Hallums, Cousin of Kevin Hallums, has also invested in the project citing an opportunity for locals to engage in an environment unknown to most, but known by few; the DC Native.
